During this educational evening, Allyse Freeman (MDC’s Museum and Research Center Director) will talk about Minnesota’s longest strike, which involved seven women who protested for fair wages, benefits, and contracts for more than four years (1987-1991). They picketed in sun, rain, sleet, and snow; held local rallies; marched on their employer’s headquarters in Minneapolis; and were at the heart of a court case that affirmed union protections.
Throughout her presentation, Allyse will put the strike in its broader historical and economic context, and she’ll answer audience questions.
