THE MUSEUM
OF THE
IRON RANGE
What Will You DISCOVER?
Connect to the unique human and natural history of the Iron Range by visiting the Minnesota Discovery Center! Nestled in the heart of a region like no other, this state-of-the-art nonprofit museum, research center, and community hub explores the land, the mines, the people, and the work.
There is so much to explore all in one place: historical exhibits, genealogical research, recreational activities, trolley tours, play spaces, mini golf, live music, and more. We frequently host free and low-cost educational programming and community events, and we provide quick access to Redhead MTB Park, the Mesabi Trail, and the Old Glen Mine Pit Lake, where you can hike, bike, snowshoe, kayak, canoe, paddleboard, swim, and fish.
General Information
The Minnesota Discovery Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing the stories of the Minnesota Iron Range to life—past, present, and future. Through engaging exhibits, educational programs, and community events, MDC helps connect visitors to the region’s rich history and culture. Located in Chisholm, MN, it’s a year-round destination focused on lifelong learning and building a strong, vibrant community for generations to come.
Sprawling over a 660-acre campus, MDC represents the largest museum complex in Minnesota outside the Twin Cities. Our 33,000 square foot museum showcases stories from our region's human and natural history. From 90-million-year-old fossils to the cultural traditions of both our indigenous relatives and immigrant ancestors, MDC makes the past come alive so those in the present can build a better future.
