Ole Oleson’s Journey to America Guided Snowshoe Hike

Strap on your snowshoes and travel in the footsteps of Ole Oleson, a Norwegian immigrant, on a guided hike that traces his journey to America. This outdoor experience takes kids through MDC’s Heritage Park, pausing to investigate historic “Old World” buildings (such as a Norwegian stabbur and a Sami goahti) along the way. Once Ole crosses the Atlantic, the kids will follow his life from his work in the Iron Range’s mines to the founding of his family’s homestead.

🧣 Dress warm! Be prepared for an hour-long period of moderate outdoor recreation. Hats, gloves, jackets, and snowpants are necessary, along with sturdy winter boots to pair with MDC-provided snowshoes (rental complimentary).
