Family Discovery Day: Fiber Arts Fun
August 8 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

🧶 Friday, August 8 | 3:00pm–6:00pm
Regular Museum Admission Applies
Step back in time to an era when clothes, rugs, and other household essentials didn’t come from a store—they were made at home. On Friday, August 8, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, local fiber artists will display their amazing talents of spinning yarn and weaving textiles at the Minnesota Discovery Center. This very special Family Discovery Day is perfect for curious kids, crafty adults, and anyone fascinated by how things were made before fast fashion. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to connect with Minnesota’s textile traditions!
Watch skilled fiber artists bring history to life as they spin yarn with graceful speed and weave textiles with rhythmic precision. Feel the whir of the spinning wheel, hear the clack of the loom, and discover the time-honored tradition of making your own “stuff.”
🎨 Interactive Bonus: Try your hand at weaving on a table loom, and create your own colorful design to take home!
Plus, this Friday is also the day of a captivating cultural performance by The Tamburitzans, the longest-running multicultural song and dance company in the United States. Enjoy traditional folk expression from across Europe, and support talented young student-performers as they twirl their way across nationwide stages! 🎵💃🎤 Tickets for the show include FREE general admission to the Museum the day of the performance, which means free access to Family Discovery Day: Fiber Arts Fun.
