SUMMARY:"Dom on the Range" Pop-Up Exhibit Opening
DESCRIPTION:“Dom on the Range” Pop-Up Exhibit Opening \nOur next pop-up exhibit officially launches on Saturday\, August 1\, the same day as Zarja Fest\, a day-long event being put on by the Slovenian Union of America (SUA) to mark the organization’s 100-year anniversary! 🤍💙❤️ \nEntitled “Dom on the Range\,” this new pop-up exhibit features several major Slovenian descendants from the City of Chisholm\, including Veda Ponikvar 📰 (the first woman publisher in Minnesota)\, John Blatnik 🏛️ (a former U.S. Representative)\, Jim Oberstar 💼 (a former U.S. Representative)\, Father Frank Perkovich 😇 (a Catholic priest known for his “Polka Masses”)\, and the Klobuchar family ⛏️ (various occupations)\, all of whom influenced Iron Range society and culture. \nBy the way\, “dom” means “home” in Slovenian. Along with being a cheeky pun of a well-known phrase (🤣)\, the exhibit’s title is a nod to the Slovenski Dom\, the historic Slovenian National Home Association (SNHA) building located in Chisholm\, MN. \nMore about Zarja Fest: This centennial celebration will be a vibrant event filled with music\, dancing\, singing\, and other cultural activities. MDC is the host venue (not the organizer). Participants can be the first to view the pop-up exhibit\, and they can explore their genealogy in the Research Center. Tickets can be purchased from the Northern Lakes Arts Association’s website\, and a limited number of day-of-event tickets will be available at the door. Come get your polka on! 💃🕺

Plus\, they’ll enjoy engaging activities and art projects. It all takes place down at MDC’s historic Glen Location. \nThe camp itself takes place from Tuesday\, June 16 to Thursday\, June 18\, but there will be a very special “Harvest Day” on Thursday\, August 20 so the campers can come back and reap what they sewed. \n* Special note: We understand that families look different! Here\, a group includes your household unit\, however that looks. That means you can register multiple 3- to 7-year-olds for the camp if you have them\, plus can bring along non-camper babies/older kids so you don’t have to worry about arranging childcare. Your payment covers everyone!
